Asleep: Act 1 Is Free to Keep on Steam Until November 2, Bringing Brazilian Horror to Halloween
By CriticalPixel ·
Halloween has delivered a free nightmare with a Brazilian accent. Asleep: Act 1 is free to claim and keep on Steam until November 2, giving PC players a chance to grab Black Hole Games' psychological horror adventure without paying for the opening chapter. The Steam store page says the game stays yours if you add it to your account before the deadline, subject to its stated restrictions. Deal tracker Wario64 also flagged the giveaway as live, so this is a permanent claim during a limited window, not a free weekend rental.
Grab the first act before the offer ends
Go to the store page, sign in and use the add-to-account option while the offer is active. Steam lists the first act at a 100% discount and says to claim it before November 2. The important distinction is that the giveaway covers Act 1, not every chapter of Asleep. You do not need to finish it before the promotion ends, but you do need to claim it in time.
Cheap Ass Gamer independently spotted the free-to-keep offer as well. Game Rant had previously reported that the game was among upcoming Steam giveaways, and the store listing now shows the claim option live. The page displays prices in local currency, so check your own storefront for the terms available in your region. If you have been saving horror games for the holiday, this is an easy one to put on the list without gambling your wallet on a game you have never tried.
A nightmare set in 1990s Brazil
Asleep follows Ana Lucia, a lonely young woman caught between a chaotic reality and her nightmares. The store describes a psychological horror adventure set in northeastern Brazil during the 1990s, presented with detailed pixel art and animation. Players search hostile environments for clues, solve puzzles and avoid creatures hiding in the dark. This is a story-driven opening episode, so expect an introduction to a larger journey rather than a complete package of every act.
The flashlight is more than a way to see the scenery. According to the store description, light can reveal items and locations, while different monsters react to it differently. Ana's sanity deteriorates if she spends too long in darkness, making the situation more dangerous. That setup sounds like a good reason to watch the room and think about your next move instead of sprinting blindly through every screen.
The game combines side-view exploration with point-and-click puzzles and stealth, and the developers describe two versions of its world to explore. Clues, documents and items feed into the mystery, while choices and collectibles can unlock secret memories. Steam lists full controller support and a single-player mode, alongside English and Brazilian Portuguese interface, audio and subtitles. It also warns of violence, psychological horror and references to difficult social and mental health themes, so this is not a cozy Halloween freebie.
What happens after the free chapter
Act 2 is a separate purchase, and the developers have announced a Steam page for a final act that is still marked as coming soon. In their October 27 update, Black Hole Games and publisher CriticalLeap said the first two acts also received adjustments and fixes for Steam's Scream Fest. The same post lists changes such as access to previously found documents through the pause menu and new text showing Ana's thoughts in certain situations. Those notes are useful context, but the final chapter does not yet have a stated release date on that page.
That structure matters when judging the deal. A free first act is a low-risk way to see whether the setting, puzzles and pacing work for you, but it is also an entry point to a story that continues in paid content. There is nothing wrong with that arrangement as long as the store makes the split clear, and this one does. Claiming the opening episode is not the same thing as getting the full series for free.
Players and the CriticalPixel take
At the time we checked, Steam showed 316 overall user reviews and a Very Positive rating for Act 1. That is a useful signal about the existing game, not a verdict on the new giveaway or proof that every player will love it. Independent reaction to this particular promotion is still limited, with deal posts only just appearing as we checked. We would rather give you that distinction than pretend a few early posts amount to a community consensus.
Our take: this is the kind of giveaway worth claiming if horror is anywhere near your backlog. A setting outside the usual haunted American suburb, a flashlight tied to survival and a low entry cost make a stronger pitch than another anonymous pile of jump scares. The episodic split is the caveat, especially if you hate stopping a story partway through. Still, getting the first act for nothing lets you decide whether Ana's nightmare earns the rest of your time.
The practical move is simple: add Act 1 to your Steam account before November 2, then play it when you are ready. Take a look at the content warnings before you start, and check the prices of later chapters if you want the whole journey. The final act is still on the way, so there is no need to assume its release timing. Free horror with a distinct setting is a solid Halloween option, provided you know which piece of the story you are getting.
