Call of Duty Black Ops 7 and Warzone Season 06 The Haunting Launches September 17 With a Doom Crossover
By CriticalPixel ·
Call of Duty just teamed up with one of gaming's most iconic demon slaying franchises, and the timing lines up perfectly with Halloween season. Activision confirmed in a PlayStation Blog post that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Call of Duty: Warzone are getting a full Doom crossover as part of Season 06, officially titled The Haunting, arriving Thursday, September 17. The update pulls together new maps, a fresh survival mode, undead themed limited time modes, and a demonic Battle Pass tie in that puts the Doom Slayer's legacy front and center inside the Call of Duty universe.
New Maps and Modes Hit Multiplayer
Multiplayer gets two new maps with the update. Quantum drops players into a Guild quantum computing facility buried in Arctic ice, fighting through a damaged tower and a frozen turbine room at the center of the map. Bloodstead returns as a retheme of the classic Homestead location, except now the water has turned to blood and unexplainable horrors show up at every turn. Alongside the maps, Black Ops 7 adds T.E.D.D. Trials, a new 6v6 limited time mode pulling three Zombies maps, Roadkill, Inferno, and Lost, into a multiplayer setting where Ray Guns become the weapon of choice against a wave of undead. Hordepoint also makes a comeback, turning classic Hardpoint into a fight where neutral zombies attack both teams until one side locks down the objective.
Zombies Gets a New Survival Map and Roguelite Rewards
The Zombies side of Black Ops 7 is getting just as much attention. Tenshu launches as a brand new Survival map set in the Masaki family's crumbling ancestral castle, tasking squads with holding the central keep against round after round of the undead. Rex Infernus is also picking up a Directed Mode with extra Main Quest guidance, plus a Starting Room challenge that locks players inside a single house for a claustrophobic run. Rogue Run, the roguelite spin on Round Based Zombies, adds three new pedestal rewards including a Pack a Punch IV upgrade and Golden Armor, and ties into the Halloween theme with pumpkin headed zombies scattered across Paradox Junction and Kowakujo.
Warzone Turns Haven's Hollow Into a Nightmare
Warzone players are not left out. Haunted Hollow reimagines Haven's Hollow as a nighttime map overrun with occult activity, complete with a Ghost Train that needs to be phased back into reality to unlock its cargo and festive pumpkins scattered near the shops that hand out either loot or a nasty trick. A drained pond reveals ruins underneath a mansion, hinting at a bigger secret buried in the map's redesign. The mode also introduces Giant Infected, a 64 player Survivors versus Infected format where eight players start infected and the rest of the lobby has to build a DNA Bomb before the outbreak spreads to everyone.
The Doom Crossover Anchors the Battle Pass
The headline crossover comes through the Season 06 Battle Pass and BlackCell track. Doom brings its hellish forces directly into Call of Duty with a themed Event Pass and the Tracer Pack: Doom Demonic Essence Bundle hitting the store alongside other Haunting branded bundles. BlackCell buyers also get access to a new Revenant Operator and a Mastercraft weapon blueprint with unlockable variants tied to in game challenges. On the weapons side, the Battle Pass unlocks the VMP SMG and TR51 Para Assault Rifle, while in game events and weekly challenges hand out the Arcblade melee weapon, the Roc 20mm Special, and three new attachments.
Early Reaction Is Still Coming In
Reaction to the update is limited so far since Activision only just published the full patch notes alongside a matching PlayStation reveal post. Engagement on PlayStation's reveal post was strong within hours of going up, but there has not been enough independent discussion yet to call a clear community consensus. Expect the temperature to shift once players get their hands on Tenshu and the new Warzone map on September 17.
The CriticalPixel Take
Slapping Doom skins on a Call of Duty Battle Pass is an easy win on paper, mixing two properties that share the same fanbase of people who like shooting things fast. The bigger story is how much content Treyarch and Raven are cramming into a single seasonal drop, with two new maps, a full Zombies survival map, a Warzone reskin, and two new limited time modes in the same package. That is a lot of live service plumbing to maintain, and it also means the Battle Pass and BlackCell bundles keep climbing the priority list ahead of raw map count. Free to play Warzone players get a real map and mode refresh here, which is more than plenty of shooters manage at this point in a yearly cycle, but the Doom tie in bundles are clearly built to pull wallets open during the same week.
What to Expect on September 17
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is available now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, and Call of Duty: Warzone remains free to play across the same platforms. Season 06 The Haunting goes live everywhere on Thursday, September 17. Between the Doom crossover bundles, the new Tenshu survival map, and Warzone's Haunted Hollow overhaul, this is one of the busier midseason content drops Call of Duty has put out this year.
