Evangelion: Delta Cross Reflections Shows Its First VR Trailer for 2027, With a Frankfurt Hands-On on November 6

Evangelion: Delta Cross Reflections Shows Its First VR Trailer for 2027, With a Frankfurt Hands-On on November 6

Evangelion is going back into the cockpit, and this time you get to feel the seat. Korean studio Pixelity Inc. has put out its debut trailer for Evangelion: Delta Cross Reflections, a planned multi-part VR project that retells the Neon Genesis Evangelion story with a brand new character at the center, and the first game is aimed at 2027. The teaser landed through the project's official channel on September 29, and Kotaku wrote it up on October 2, which is why it is on our radar today. It is a teaser, not a gameplay reveal, and that distinction matters a lot for how excited anyone should get. Still, a trilogy built around the 1995 anime is a bigger swing than the usual licensed VR tie-in, and it deserves a proper look.

    What Pixelity has actually shown

According to Kotaku, the project was first announced in early 2025 and is structured as a trilogy of games that follow the events of the original anime while telling an all-new story. You play as a new NERV trainee working toward becoming an Evangelion pilot, and the pitch includes large-scale battles against Angels plus environments from across the series, with both returning and original characters. The teaser itself is a 2D-animated recreation of scenes players are meant to experience in the finished game, not captured gameplay. The official teaser post says the video was first shown at a San Francisco hands-on preview before it was released to everyone, and the footage carries a note that it is pre-release and the final product may differ. That is a standard disclaimer, but it is worth reading literally here, because nothing shown so far commits to how the game plays in your hands.

The trailer opens with one of the new characters speaking to the player as damaged ships fall from the sky onto the street nearby, then jumps through glimpses of running through NERV HQ, repairing vehicles and an Evangelion, and training on shooting ranges. It also includes hedge trimming and a cake moment with Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley, and Kotaku admits it is hard to parse what these disconnected moments will mean in the context of the game. That is a tonal gamble. Evangelion is a story about trauma, dread and teenagers being forced into giant machines, so a VR game that lets you share dessert with Asuka is either charming fan service or a sign the studio wants a lighter slice-of-life layer between the Angel fights. Both can work. Our worry is that a trilogy needs a hook beyond fan service, and a teaser stitched from disconnected moments does not tell us what the core loop is.

Where you can actually try it

The more concrete news is a string of hands-on previews. The official account says the project ran a San Francisco hands-on preview first, and on September 30 it named Frankfurt am Main as the host city for Germany. Applications for the Frankfurt event opened on September 30 and close October 13 at 23:59 CEST, with the preview itself set for Friday, November 6, 2026. Attendees get hands-on time with content that is still in development, and the Frankfurt venue will also feature AR and VR experiences that let you step into the world of Evangelion. Details like the venue, the number of participants and eligibility requirements sit in the application form rather than the announcement, so we are not going to guess at them. The team also says it is preparing a hands-on preview in Japan, with the date, venue and how to take part to follow on its official X account.

That tour tells you where the project is. Studios do not book application-based previews across San Francisco, Frankfurt and Japan for a pitch that has nothing to play. They do it when there is a build they want fans and press to react to before launch, and when they want word of mouth to carry a 2027 release. The flip side is that previews with applications and event-exclusive perks are curated, and the first people through the door will be Evangelion fans who signed up for it, so early impressions will skew warm. Wait for the unfiltered hands-on writeups before treating any of it as a verdict.

Why this is a bigger swing than an Eva tie-in

Evangelion has never been shy about alternate takes. Kotaku points out that the franchise released numerous PC and console games in the late 1990s that did exactly that, dating sims included, and the Rebuild of Evangelion films are themselves an alternative take on the original story. The series has touched VR before through a Japan-only experience that let players climb into an Eva and fight an Angel. Cross Reflections is described as far more ambitious than that, arriving as the franchise works out what it wants to be after the end of the Rebuild series and without creator Hideaki Anno's direct involvement. Kotaku also ties it to a planned anime TV series penned by Yoko Taro, which suggests the brand is open to fresh voices right now.

    What fans are saying

Reaction under the official teaser post is warm and mostly excited. One reply says it looks great, another simply says they are so excited, and a few lean into the joke that the trailer is full of daily Shinji chores with nobody actually getting in the robot. The practical questions are more interesting: people are asking whether it will run on Quest 3 standalone and whether it works on Apple Vision Pro. The sources we read do not confirm any platform, so there is no answer to those yet. The post has pulled roughly 74,000 views, 237 reposts and around a thousand likes so far, which is a healthy start for a niche VR title, but we are reading a handful of fan replies, so treat it as enthusiasm and not a consensus.

    The CriticalPixel take

We want this to be good. Evangelion has an audience that will buy a headset for the right game, and a new-pilot story is the correct angle, because redoing Shinji's story beat for beat in VR would have been the lazy move. But the open questions are loud. The sources we read give no platform, no price, no gameplay footage and no firmer date than 2027, and the trailer is animation, not captured play. A trilogy also means a first game that has to stand on its own, and VR has a habit of promising multi-part epics that run out of road after part one. Pixelity gets credit for taking previews on tour instead of hiding behind trailers, but the next honest test is a build people can talk about without a PR schedule attached.

If you are an Evangelion fan in Germany, the Frankfurt application window closes October 13, so that is the one date worth putting in your calendar. Everyone else gets to wait for the Japan details and the first impressions from people who have actually held the controllers. We will be watching for a platform announcement, because that single line will tell us more about who this game is for than any teaser has so far.
