Fortnite Confirms Five Nights at Freddy's for October 1, and Epic's Reveal Is Now Its Most-Liked Post Ever

Fortnite Confirms Five Nights at Freddy's for October 1, and Epic's Reveal Is Now Its Most-Liked Post Ever

Five Nights at Freddy's is officially coming to Fortnite, and Epic wasted no time proving how much people wanted it. Epic confirmed on September 27 that the animatronics are joining this year's Fortnitemares event, which kicks off on October 1. Within a day the announcement post had become the most-liked thing the Fortnite account has ever put out, passing the Avengers, Dragon Ball Z and Naruto. Fans have been begging for this crossover for years, and the pizzeria has been quietly rising on the Island map for weeks as a not-so-subtle hint. Now there is a trailer, a date and a list of bosses. It is a big Halloween swing, and it lands in the right place.

    What Epic Actually Confirmed

The announcement came from the official Fortnite account on X, a short clip captioned "IT'S ME!" with a tag for Scott Cawthon's studio and a note to see everyone on October 1. A three-second teaser had gone up about twenty minutes earlier, so the reveal was staged as a small build-up rather than a surprise drop. Eurogamer reports that the follow-up trailer formally confirms Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria as a location on the map. Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy all appear as bosses that players can take on in a fight. Epic's own line in the announcement was "Face the animatronic animal bosses and survive the night", which tells you the vibe: this is a boss encounter setup, not just a skin drop.

IGN says the trailer appears to confirm that Freddy, Chica, Bonnie and Foxy will also get Fortnite skins, alongside various other cosmetic items. That wording matters, because the trailer is the only evidence so far and Epic has not laid out a full item shop breakdown in anything I opened. I could not find pricing for any FNAF cosmetics, so I am not going to guess at numbers. What is clear is the timing: the skins are expected to arrive on October 1, the same day Fortnitemares starts. If Epic follows its usual pattern, expect the bundle price conversation to start the minute the shop refreshes. Epic followed up on September 28 with new Fortnitemares key art that puts the animatronics right in the middle of the event's usual pumpkin and monster chaos.

The Like Count Tells the Story

IGN pegged the announcement at more than 312,000 likes at the time of writing, which makes it the most-liked post in the Fortnite account's history. The previous champion was the Dragon Ball Z confirmation at roughly 282,000, followed by Naruto at 214,000 and Avengers: Infinity War at 212,000 back in 2018. It even edged out Epic's own reveal that the original map was coming back for an OG mode, which sat at 216,000. When I opened the post it showed 315,000 likes and about 19.2 million views. Beating an anime giant and a Marvel event on the same platform is not a rounding error, it is a statement about where this fanbase's hype was sitting.

Still from the short Fortnite teaser clip posted before the Five Nights at Freddy's reveal

    How It Got Here

FNAF started in 2014 as a small Steam horror game and grew into a franchise with numerous sequels, spinoffs, novels and two major Hollywood movies. Fortnite crossover speculation has followed it around for years, with memes and wishlists piling up every time Epic teased a horror event. Eurogamer notes the crossover had been expected for a while, with the pizzeria appearing on the island during Fortnite's Override season and recent Fortnitemares hints pointing to security cameras and FNAF dialogue. So this was less a shock than a long-running open secret finally getting confirmed. Still, confirmation and a trailer are a different level of satisfying, and Epic clearly knows it.

There is also a bigger schedule story here. IGN reports that Fortnitemares is set to run longer than usual, for a full month and roughly until the end of this year's Fortnite chapter. Fans are already guessing at a mini-season afterward, similar to last year's Simpsons takeover, with a One Piece event a popular bet, before Chapter 8 arrives around the start of December. Treat all of that as expectation, not confirmation, since Epic has only locked down the October 1 start. A month-long horror event with named bosses is at least a strong sign that this is not a throwaway weekend collab.

    Community Reaction

The reaction is overwhelmingly positive if you go by the numbers, and that is really the only large-scale signal I can point to. The like count and view count speak loudly, and the replies I skimmed under the announcement leaned toward relief and excitement, with a lot of people just typing "Finally!!". I only read a handful of individual replies, so I am not going to pretend I measured a consensus beyond that. There was also some early noise about a fake teaser floating around before the official post, which is a reminder to check the source before you share the next leak. The official Fortnite account is the one that counts here.

    The CriticalPixel Take

This is a smart crossover because it fits the event. Fortnitemares has always been about spooky skins and limited-time modes, and turning FNAF's animatronics into boss fights gives players something to actually do instead of just buy. The risk is the usual one: if the good stuff sits behind a pricey bundle and the boss fights are thin, the goodwill from that record-setting post drains fast. Epic has earned enough trust with this fanbase to get a pass on day one, but not a blank check. I want to see how hard the bosses hit, whether they drop anything worth having, and whether the map location feels like a real place rather than a texture swap. If Epic nails those three things, this becomes the Halloween event people bring up next year.

Fortnitemares starts October 1, and that is when we find out whether the hype was earned. Until then, the pizzeria is on the Island, the trailer is out and the fanbase is loud. Nobody is going to complain about Freddy showing up in a battle royale that already has a ridiculous roster of crossover guests. Just keep an eye on that item shop.
