Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition Lands October 1 With Echoes of Sekigahara Expansion and a Roguelike Mode

Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition Lands October 1 With Echoes of Sekigahara Expansion and a Roguelike Mode

Sucker Punch is going back to Ezo on October 1, and this time the trip is bigger than most people expected. The studio has locked a Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition for that date, and the headline is a real narrative expansion called Echoes of Sekigahara, not a cosmetics pack or a multiplayer reskin. Alongside that story DLC comes a brand new single-player roguelike mode called Most Wanted, plus a free Beauty of Yotei screensaver environment, a new Sakai Armor unlock for pre-orders, and a pile of quality of life updates that long-time owners have been begging for since launch. The new package lands on PS5 just in time for the first anniversary of the base game, and existing owners do not get a price gouge: a $14.99 upgrade carries the full content drop.

The big story beat is Echoes of Sekigahara, and Sucker Punch is being unusually open about what it covers. Echoes splits between the present day and flashbacks to Atsu's life on the Japanese mainland. In the present, players step into a previously unseen valley once held by The Snake, the cult leader antagonist from the main game, and his loyal followers known as the Vipers. A new character named Nagato shows up in Ezo, someone from Atsu's past whose role in the new campaign is the narrative hook the studio is leaning on. In the flashbacks, players live through a section of the Battle of Sekigahara, the real 1600 showdown that set the stage for the Tokugawa shogunate, and watch a key moment in Atsu's life before she returned home for her quest for vengeance. The expansion layers in new enemies, heavy weapons, armor sets, and dyes on top of the existing loot pool.

Most Wanted turns Ezo into a roguelike

Most Wanted is the second pillar of the Complete Edition and the one Sucker Punch is clearly using to chase the Hades and Slay the Spire crowd. Players accept bounties to start a fresh run, and every enemy taken down drops perks that compound across the run. There is also a roster of unlockable characters, and the trailer teases three very different playstyles. Atsu stays the dual katana specialist from the main game, Oyuki moves to a kusarigama for crowd control, and the new character Nagato fights with a yari spear, which gives the mode genuine build variety instead of being three skins of the same moveset. Sucker Punch says it has been watching the combat reels the community posts on social media and wants players to break Most Wanted trying to find the perfect run, which is exactly the kind of encouragement a roguelike needs to land.

The pricing structure is also worth pausing on, because Sucker Punch is doing the right thing here. Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition costs $69.99 USD for new players and ships with the main game, Ghost of Yotei Legends co-op, the Digital Deluxe extras, the Charm of Hokkyokusei, and both new pieces of content the day they unlock on October 1. Players who already own the base game pay $14.99 USD for the Complete Edition Upgrade, and that is the only charge for both Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted, with no separate DLC tax and no split content packs. Anyone who pre-orders the upgrade by September 30 also unlocks the Sakai Armor, a callback to Jin's family armor from Ghost of Tsushima, for Atsu to wear on October 1. The base edition of Ghost of Yotei stays on sale at its usual price for people who do not want the new content.

Free updates for every owner and a nod to the community

The free patch 2.0, which drops on October 1 for all owners, is what makes the Complete Edition feel like a thank-you rather than a cash grab. Everyone, including the players who refuse to spend a dollar, gets Beauty of Yotei, a new screensaver-like mode that shows off the environments of Ezo for ambient viewing and doubles as a Photo Mode playground. The update also adds the option to keep an armor set's appearance while using a different set's stats, a quality of life request that has been a top-three ask since the game launched in 2025, plus a new high contrast accessibility option. New Trophies for both Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted are also in the patch, and the studio is adding new tracks for Watanabe Mode that play across the entire game when the music mode is enabled. The Sucker Punch blog post thanks the community directly for the first year, name-drops Jubei thirst posts and virtual photographs alongside the combat montages, and tells players the team is watching their work and sharing it internally. That is rare to see from a first-party studio and is worth flagging.

Community reaction has been mostly positive in the first few hours since the announcement, with the $14.99 upgrade price being the most-quoted number across the replies on the official PlayStation channels. Posts highlighting the roguelike direction for Most Wanted picked up the most engagement from players who bounced off the open-world loop in the main game but loved the combat, and the early Most Wanted footage is already inspiring fresh build theory-crafting threads. The Sakai Armor callback is also doing a lot of work for longtime Ghost of Tsushima fans who never thought Jin's iconic armor would cross over. Not every reaction is glowing: a loud minority is once again asking for a PC port, which Sucker Punch has not signaled, and a few players are noting that the October 1 date in some territories becomes October 2 across Asia, Australia, and New Zealand because of the staggered global rollout. None of that is enough to slow the wave, and the studio is promising more details on Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara in the coming weeks.

    Critical Pixel take

Sucker Punch just gave a master class in how to handle a year-one expansion. Echoes of Sekigahara is the kind of substantial story DLC that Ghost of Tsushima never officially got, and Most Wanted is the right kind of side mode for a game whose combat is its single best feature. The $14.99 upgrade is the real headline, because it tells the existing player base that the studio respects their purchase, and Beauty of Yotei for free is a sweetener that no one asked for but everyone will use. If Sucker Punch can keep this cadence, the next twelve months of Ghost of Yotei might be the strongest year of post-launch support any PlayStation first-party game has had since 2018. Pre-order by September 30 to lock in the Sakai Armor and start clearing your calendar for October 1.
