Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition Locks October 1 With Jin Sakai in Most Wanted Roguelike and a Sekigahara Story DLC

Sucker Punch Productions rolled out a double hit at today's PlayStation State of Play, locking Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition for an October 1 release on PS5 and unveiling two separate reasons to come back to Atsu's revenge tale. The package ships the base game, the brand new narrative expansion Ghost of Yotei: Echoes of Sekigahara, and Most Wanted, a roguelike combat survival mode where Atsu is joined by Oyuki, Nagato, and a returning Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima. Andrew Goldfarb, Senior Communications Manager at Sucker Punch, walked through the announcements on the PlayStation Blog, and the studio confirmed the mode pulls directly from Yotei's existing combat systems rather than reinventing the wheel.
Most Wanted wants you to chase the Yotei Six
Most Wanted is structured as a roguelike bounty hunt. Each run starts at a bounty board, and the target is a different member of the Yotei Six. You do not fight them immediately. Instead you chew through waves of enemies and minibosses, collecting perks between waves, then take on the final boss when the run is ready. The hardest bounty in the rotation is Lord Saito himself, and bounties replay at escalating difficulty tiers so the late game keeps finding ways to break your favorite builds. Currencies you earn in runs (Mon) can also be spent outside of runs to unlock new techniques, weapon upgrades, charms, and additional characters. Anything cosmetic you unlock in Most Wanted unlocks in the main game too, so a mask earned during a bounty run shows up during Atsu's original story or in Echoes of Sekigahara.
Four playable characters lead the mode. Atsu is the default starting character with dual katana plus the Metsubushi blinding powder and a Blind Bomb Ghost Tool. Her Ultimate is Call of the Pack, which summons two wolves to clear nearby enemies, and her Kill Streak is Onryo's Howl, which terrifies surrounding foes and forces one to flee in panic. Oyuki fights with a kusarigama, kunai, and a tanegashima rifle. Her Ultimate is Shadow Killer, a smoke burst that lets her assassinate two adjacent enemies, and her Kill Streak is Shadow Shinobi, which pulls a Nine Tails ally into the fight to perform its own assassinations for a limited window.
Nagato brings the long range kit: a yari spear, tanzutsu pistol, yumi longbow, and hankyu shortbow. His Ultimate is Gambler's Mark, which locks onto two enemies and fires a guaranteed headshot, and his Kill Streak is Blast Arrow, refilling his Concentration meter and granting an explosive arrow for the next volley. Then there is Jin Sakai, the Ghost of Tsushima hero returning to a Sucker Punch game for the first time since his own title wrapped. Sucker Punch said the animation and character art teams rebuilt his classic model to keep it faithful to Ghost of Tsushima while still applying Yotei-era upgrades, and Jin keeps all four of his original stances. He also starts with a Sticky Bomb and hankyu, his Ultimate is the Dance of Wrath disarm skill from Tsushima, and his Kill Streak is Ghost Stance, which terrifies nearby enemies and kills a limited number in a single hit. The four characters each start with a katana plus their own unique weapon set, and Sucker Punch is pushing players to experiment with builds rather than maining one.
Echoes of Sekigahara dives into Atsu's past
Alongside the roguelike, Sucker Punch showed off a full story expansion called Ghost of Yotei: Echoes of Sekigahara. The DLC explores Atsu's past experiences around the Battle of Sekigahara, layering in new areas to explore, weapons, armor, and cosmetics on top of the existing open world. Echoes of Sekigahara is the narrative counterpart to Most Wanted, so on October 1 players can pick their poison: grind bounties with the four-character roster, or chase a new story thread set before the main campaign. Both are bundled into Complete Edition, which is the only way to get them on PS5, and the base Ghost of Yotei is included so newcomers do not need to buy anything separately to play.
Reaction: a roguelike with the right pedigree
The reaction to Jin Sakai's return has been the loudest signal across PlayStation accounts and coverage outlets. IGN framed it as a brand-new story expansion arriving October 1, GameSpot called out the new areas and Sekigahara framing, and Final Weapon and the IGN Nordic regional desk posted the official trailer cut for the State of Play audience. The perk system is the part worth watching: Sucker Punch is mixing weapon mastery, gear loadouts, summons, parries, and survivability perks inside each run, and the studio said the goal is to encourage players to find broken or surprising combinations rather than stick to a single optimized build. Most Wanted runs also support four playable characters and the base campaign unlocks any cosmetics earned during runs, which gives the mode replay value beyond its own bounty ladder.
CriticalPixel take
Two modes from a studio that already had the strongest action combat in the genre is the right move. Atsu's main quest already delivered on melee feel, and Echoes of Sekigahara extends the story without forcing players to wait three more years for Ghost of Yotei 2. Most Wanted is the more interesting gamble. Pulling Jin Sakai back into a roguelike is a fan-service move that would have felt cheap if Sucker Punch had phoned it in, but the studio clearly rebuilt his model and his Tsushima stances for the new engine, and the bounty structure scales in a way that makes perks matter. If Sucker Punch tuned the perk balance even halfway decently, Most Wanted will eat hundreds of hours from anyone who finished the main game. October 1 is a one-shot for both the roguelike crowd and the lore hunters, and Sucker Punch just gave PS5 owners a reason to come back to Atsu's Hokkaido before a sequel is even on the calendar.
