Nintendo Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Remake Tipped for November 11, Eight Days Before GTA 6
By CriticalPixel ·
Nintendo has not announced a date, but the internet has, and the internet is fairly sure that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will land on Switch 2 on November 11. The reasoning is the kind of forensic fandom that should not work but keeps working anyway: two pairs of unrelated amiibo figurines are listed for that exact date, and Nintendo has, three times in a row this year, shipped amiibo on the same day as an unannounced game. So fans, sharpened by precedent, are filling in the blank. If they are right, Nintendo is about to plant a Switch 2 exclusive eight days in front of GTA 6.
The Reddit thread that started the latest round, posted to r/GamingLeaksAndRumours, lays out a tidy pattern. Earlier in 2026, the Mineru's Construct amiibo was dated before the Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave launch. Meta Knight and Shadow Star landed before Pokemon Pokopia. Dedede and Tank Star showed up before Rhythm Heaven Groove. None of those amiibo had any narrative tie to the games shipping alongside them. They just shared a logistics pipeline, riding the same trucks to retailers on the same day.
Why November 11 specifically
Nintendo's own store now lists Sword Kirby and Dragoon for November 11, along with Noir Dedede and Hydra. The dates appeared without a single game attached. The same pattern is the only one that has held for the entire year, and it has not been wrong yet. So when IGN's Tom Phillips and outlets from Eurogamer to VICE started repeating the November 11 prediction on July 31, they were not reaching. They were triangulating off a public schedule. The official Nintendo product page for the Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake still reads "Release date: 2026" with no specific day, and the store art confirms it is a digital Switch 2 exclusive.
The November nobody else wanted
Look at the rest of the Switch 2 release calendar and the gap is obvious. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave lands September 17, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort takes October 22, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition locks in December 3. The space between October 22 and December 3 is wide open, and Nintendo has not booked anything for it. That is not how a publisher behaves when they are not sitting on a release. They are holding the month.
Meanwhile, Rockstar has GTA 6 dated for November 19. Every other major publisher has stepped out of the way, lining up launches in September and early October to clear the runway. That is the market signaling, plainly, that Rockstar owns the month. Nintendo is the only company that has shown a willingness to plant a tent in front of that freight train in the past, and even then usually with something portable and weird, not a flagship.
Community reaction: cautious belief, mild dread
The reaction splits along two clean lines. Zelda fans, starved for a Switch 2 release that is not Fire Emblem, are inclined to believe the leak and a little bit excited. On Twitter and the IGN comments, you see a lot of "mark November 11" replies and a few people buying the Rhythm Heaven Groove demo just to make sure the date pattern actually works as advertised. The skepticism is the healthy kind, with people pointing out that Nintendo has botched or delayed date reveals before and that amiibo dates have shifted.
The other reaction is the GTA 6 crowd, who look at the rumored pairing and just shrug. A Zelda remake and GTA 6 are not the same audience, and Rockstar is not releasing on a Nintendo platform. If you are buying GTA 6 on PS5 or Xbox, the existence of an OoT release the week before is at most a minor scheduling nuisance. The collision only really matters if you are a journalist trying to cover both at once, or a Nintendo fan trying to decide whether to buy a Switch 2 in November at all.
Why a head-to-head with GTA 6 actually makes sense
There is a cynical read here and a generous read. The cynical one is that Nintendo, behind on Switch 2 momentum, is using the GTA 6 news cycle to get free press for a remake people have been begging for since the 3DS era. Get the article written, get the trailer clipped, get the search volume, and let Rockstar do your marketing for you. The generous read is that Nintendo has a fixed internal deadline for fiscal year 2026, GTA 6 is just where the calendar falls, and Nintendo does not actually fear Rockstar. The evidence leans cynical. Nintendo has not announced a single other game for November, and they have not pushed Ocarina of Time into October or December. The slot is held for something loud.
Critical Pixel take
If November 11 holds, this is the most interesting month in gaming since Elden Ring and Horizon shared a February in 2022, and unlike that collision, this one is happening on entirely different hardware. A Switch 2 exclusive Zelda remake eight days before GTA 6 is the kind of asymmetric release schedule that the industry used to run before every publisher decided to dodge the biggest tentpole. Nintendo is the only company that still has the brand power to even consider it. Whether the launch holds or slips, the fact that they are willing to book the month is the story.
Worth watching over the next few weeks: a Nintendo Direct rumored for late August, the franchise's 40th anniversary on September 1, and any movement on the official product page. If the date holds, we will see it confirmed before the amiibo ship. If it slips, the amiibo will probably shift, and the pattern will break. Either way, mark the month in pen. November 2026 is going to be the loudest gaming month in years.
