September 2026 Store Data: Kinguin Is the Cheapest for 59.4% of the Top 500 Discounted Games in USD
By CriticalPixel ·
Kinguin holds the lowest price for 297 of the 500 most discounted games we track in USD, a 59.4% share, while Steam holds it for only 36 of them (7.2%). That is the headline of the September 2026 store share study, which CriticalPixel ran against its own price cache in three currencies: USD, BRL and EUR. The picture changes in Brazil, where Steam is the cheapest store for 27.4% of the sample and Kinguin's lead shrinks to 49.5%.
This article reports only what the study script produced. Every figure comes from one run of that script on 2026-10-02, labelled as the September 2026 study, and the Methodology section explains what the sample does and does not represent.

Cheapest store share in USD
In USD the sample holds 500 games, and the lowest price is concentrated in a handful of stores. Kinguin leads with 297 games (59.4%), Gamivo follows with 132 games (26.4%) and Steam is third with 36 games (7.2%). YuPlay holds the cheapest price for 23 games (4.6%) and Loaded for 8 games (1.6%). Nintendo eShop is cheapest for 2 games (0.4%), and Green Man Gaming and IndieGala hold 1 game each (0.2%).
The median discount against the Steam list price is 98% for Kinguin, Gamivo, Green Man Gaming and IndieGala, 97% for YuPlay and Loaded, and 81% for Nintendo eShop. The chart below shows the share of games per store for the ten largest entries, which in USD means all eight stores that appear.
Cheapest store share in BRL
In BRL the sample holds 497 games, because 3 of the top 500 had no priced non-DLC offer in the per-store cache and were excluded. Kinguin leads with 246 games (49.5%, median discount 96%), Steam is second with 136 games (27.4%, median discount 95%) and Gamivo is third with 89 games (17.9%, median discount 96%).
Below those three, YuPlay holds 5 games (1.0%), and Loaded, Nintendo eShop, Green Man Gaming and Nuuvem hold 4 games each (0.8%). GamersGate holds 3 games (0.6%) and IndieGala 2 games (0.4%). Nuuvem appears only in the BRL table, and ten different stores hold at least one cheapest price in this currency, the widest spread of the three.
Cheapest store share in EUR
In EUR the sample holds 500 games and Kinguin has its highest share of the three currencies: 315 games (63.0%, median discount 98%). Gamivo holds 126 games (25.2%, median discount 98%) and Steam holds 33 games (6.6%), its lowest share of the three currencies.
YuPlay holds 14 games (2.8%), Loaded 6 games (1.2%), Nintendo eShop 3 games (0.6%), GamersGate 2 games (0.4%) and Green Man Gaming 1 game (0.2%). Eight stores appear in total, and Kinguin, Gamivo and Steam together cover 94.8% of the sample.
How the three currencies compare
Kinguin is first in all three currencies, with a share that runs from 49.5% in BRL to 63.0% in EUR. Gamivo is second in USD (26.4%) and EUR (25.2%) but third in BRL (17.9%). Steam is the store that moves most: 7.2% in USD, 6.6% in EUR and 27.4% in BRL, where it takes second place.
The top three stores cover 93.0% of the USD sample and 94.8% of both the BRL and EUR samples, so the long tail of other stores is thin in every currency. This study measures who holds the lowest listed price, and it does not test why the BRL results differ from USD and EUR.
Methodology
The study reads the price cache behind the CriticalPixel deals page. The script ran on 2026-10-02 and reads the cache as it stands at that time, so the numbers describe a snapshot labelled as the September 2026 study, not an average over the month. The sample for each currency is the top 500 entries of the cache's list of games sorted by discount, highest discount first, so the shares describe heavily discounted games, not the whole catalog.
For each game, the cheapest store is the one with the lowest price among non-DLC, in-stock offers in the per-store cache. Sample sizes are 500 games in USD, 497 in BRL and 500 in EUR. In BRL, 3 of the 500 games had no priced non-DLC offer and were excluded. Console storefronts (PlayStation Store, Xbox Store and Nintendo eShop) are included whenever they hold the cheapest price: that happened for 2 games in USD, 4 in BRL and 3 in EUR.
Median discounts are a raw ratio of the cheapest price to the Steam list price carried by the cache, taken per store over the games where that store is cheapest. They describe the price gap only, and they do not account for region locks, key delivery terms, refund policies or edition differences between stores. The raw output reports a 0% median discount for Steam in USD and EUR, and we do not quote that figure. The script returned no warnings.
Stores are named as they appear in the cache. Readers can check a store's own listing on the Steam store or the Kinguin store directly.
