Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Trailer Leaks in Full HD, Locks June 18 2027 Release Date

Four minutes of unfinished Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse footage just hit social media in full HD, and Sony is scrambling to scrub the clip off every platform it lands on. The leak appeared across X, Reddit, and Discord this morning, and IGN confirmed the footage matches the first look Sony originally showed behind closed doors at CinemaCon back in April. If this is what the marketing team has been hoarding while we all argued about Marvel fatigue, somebody owes the audience an apology for keeping it locked up.

The clip includes the film's opening sequence plus a trailer montage that locks the release date at June 18, 2027. If Sony holds that date, Beyond will land four years after Across the Spider-Verse and eight years after Into the Spider-Verse. That is a long time to wait for a finale, especially when the previous film ended on a cliffhanger with Spot ready to murder Miles' dad. The leak does not spoil the ending, but it does spoil the vibe, and the vibe is the kind of thing fans have been waiting years to see.

What the footage actually shows

According to the IGN writeup by Wesley Yin-Poole, the leaked material picks up right where Across left off. Miles is trapped in another dimension with alternate versions of himself, including the high-tech Prowler variant voiced by Jharrel Jerome. Uncle Aaron is also back, interrogating Miles while Prowler Miles creeps along the ceiling like a horror movie jumpscare. Prowler Miles drops down, introduces himself coldly, and the two trade insults before Spidey Miles powers up an electric venom shock and breaks free. The fight choreography looks closer to Across than Into, which is the right call because Across was the better-looking movie by a mile.

Variety, who covered the CinemaCon showing in April, described the same footage as vibrant and phantasmagoric, with the same multiverse-tripping imagery that defined the previous two films. The clip also confirms the returning roster: Spider-Gwen, Spider-Ham, Spider-Noir, Peter B. Parker, and Spider-Punk all show up to bail Miles out, plus two new characters driving a getaway van over a rising bridge. Daniel Kaluuya is back as Spider-Punk, which means the Spider-Punk animated spinoff Sony announced earlier is still in the cards.

Sony's security problem keeps getting worse

This is now the third major Sony or Marvel leak in less than twelve months. Tom Holland Spider-Man footage, Avengers Doomsday material, and now four minutes of Beyond the Spider-Verse have all hit open channels recently. The Doomsday trailer and X-Men cast reveal dropped on the same day as this leak, which means somebody in Sony's pipeline is either sloppy or actively working against the marketing team. Either way, this is the second time in a year Sony has had to fight an army of repost bots on X instead of running a real trailer rollout.

Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham wrote the script, with Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson directing. Shameik Moore returns as Miles, joined by Hailee Steinfeld, Greta Lee, Jason Schwartzman, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya, Nicolas Cage, and Jake Johnson. The full cast list reads like the previous film, which is fine because that cast is what made Across work. Lord and Miller told Variety in March that Beyond is the most emotional of the three, and after watching this leak it is hard to disagree. The Spot scenes teased here look like the kind of abstract portal work the previous film only hinted at.

Community reaction: pretty much unanimously hyped

Reaction across X is overwhelmingly positive. Posts calling it the potential greatest animated trilogy of all time have racked up hundreds of thousands of views in just hours. The most-shared reactions fall into three buckets: hype for the Spot sequences, relief that the animation style has not been watered down, and frustration that Sony cannot stop its own footage from leaking. One widely-circulated post from a Brazilian account noted that the leaked version is unfinished, so the final release should look considerably better than what is floating around right now. That tracks with how Sony usually handles these drops: the leaked cut is usually a work-in-progress, and the studio releases a polished version once they control the timing.

What is missing from the leak is anything that points to a new delay. The June 18, 2027 date sits in the trailer, which is the same date Sony has been carrying since late 2025. The film was originally scheduled for 2024, then slipped because of the actors strike, then slipped again because the team decided to split the story, then un-split it. Lord and Miller told io9 earlier this year that piecing the two halves back together into one coherent movie was the real reason the delays kept stacking up. Whatever the reason, holding that 2027 date matters because the gap between Across and Beyond is now wide enough that fans have started to wonder if the project is cursed.

Critical Pixel take

Sony keeps fumbling its own rollouts, and the Beyond leak is a textbook example. A studio sitting on a finished-looking first trailer for months, refusing to drop it on schedule, then watching four minutes of it land on X without a takedown catching it is a sign of bad pipeline discipline. The footage is good enough that Sony could have run a real trailer at any of the last three D23 events and gotten the same hype without losing control of the asset. Instead they waited, someone inside the production chain took the file, and now the official trailer is going to land on Sony's terms looking like the lesser cut by comparison. That is the worst possible outcome for a marketing team.

The good news is the film itself still looks like a genuine event. The Spider-Verse trilogy has earned its spot as one of the best animated runs of the decade, and if Beyond holds that 2027 date and sticks the emotional landing Lord and Miller keep promising, this leak will look like a free marketing bump a year from now. The bad news is that until Sony plugs whatever hole just dumped four minutes of unfinished footage onto the open internet, fans should expect at least one more leak before the credits roll. Bring on June 2027, and bring on the official trailer drop Sony should have run three months ago.
