In this world, forsaken by God, every newborn child is swathed in darkness, a veil drawn across its face, stripped of that which cannot be seen - the lack of which has rendered it “Empty”: the soul.
Though the souls of men have become a resource beyond replenishment, yet have men learned to forge them in the crucible of the laboratory. But the price of this discovery - none are eager to name it. Nor do they fathom what calamities such a breach must surely summon.
